6th Grade Camp

Day 4 at Camp Wartburg (Thursday, May 16)

We had an awesome, water-filled fun day at Camp Wartburg today!

The two groups each canoed a two-mile stretch of the Kaskaskia River and did an amazing job! The beginning was a little tricky, due to canoeing through trees because of flooding, but the students worked together with their small group to master the art of canoeing, led by our counselor friend Xena!

We also did a Creek Walk through the creek on the Camp grounds where quite a few of them went "swimming" or were thrown in by our new counselor friend, Gill. (Sorry--no chance of keeping the camera dry to get pictures of this, but we would have had some amazing ones!)

We finished our evening with a game of Capture the Flag versus CCLS, Campfire and Devotions, and journaling.

Day 3 at Camp Wartburg (Wednesday, May 15)

Today at Camp the 6th grade students participated in several outdoor education experiences such as a Pond Study, Orienteering and Survival Skills. They found all sorts of cool things in the pond and attempted to build a shelter with limited supplies in nature.

This afternoon the students completed a team building activity that challenged them more than they thought it would! They learned and practiced the importance of encouragement, taking turns, listening to their classmates, and working as a team!

We finished our evening with a game of Capture the Flag versus CCLS and a Campfire!

Day 2 Continued ... More pictures from Mr. Dubberke!

Day 2 at Camp Wartburg (Tuesday, May 14)
High Ropes, Zip lining, and Rock Wall OH MY!

Our students did an awesome job of challenging themselves to complete these three "challenge courses". We were so impressed with the number of students who chose to participate and challenge themselves by setting their own goals.

With the help of our camp counselor friends Rafiki, Yeti, Sparky and Xena, the 6th graders did a phenomenal job of showing their support for each other by encouraging their classmates throughout these challenges! Mr. Osbourn and I were so impressed!

After these activities, we competed in a fun, new game called Luther Ball where Mr. Osbourn's class was victorious. We ended our evening with devotions and campfire!

P.S. Several photo credits to Alexa Kratky, photographer extraordinaire! :)

Day 1 at Camp Wartburg (Monday, May 13)
We had an awesome first day at Camp! Our two groups of students started the morning with some friendly Gaga Ball Games led by our two new counselor friends, Yeti and Rafiki. These two counselors led our activities all day and the students formed quick friendships!

We then continued our afternoon with a nature walk and Scavenger Hunt to get to know the Camp Wartburg grounds. The groups then completed GICs (Group Initiative Courses) to learn the importance of team work and trust. Mrs. Weber's group completed the Trust Fall amazingly! (Don't worry--I went first to test it!) Mr. Osbourn's group challenge was the Meat Grinder (really just a giant spool...).

After dinner the students journaled, reflected and prayed about their first day at Camp, followed up by Mr. Osbourn's class versus Mrs. Weber's class in a game of Eagle's Eggs! Mrs. Weber's class was victorious in both games!

We finished our evening with devotions and campfire led by Yeti, Rafiki, Pixie and Sparky!
